The dog licence was developed to give the holder the opportunity to document, that he has his dog everyday safe under control and not other people or dogs at risk. The dog owner must put this in typical everyday situations and also answer questions about legal regulations, learning behavior and communication of dogs, behavior of the owner in the public as well as health and breeding of dogs in the driving test.
The dog licence is already recognised in some States, inter alia in Lower Saxony, as a certificate of competence. In other States, the competent local authorities decide on a recognition.
The examination for the driving licence of the dog is very extensive. In the practical part, the Auditors of dog and owner in typical everyday situations - in the Café, watching if the dog under the table and the waiter comes, when strolling in the pedestrian zone and the walk without a leash in the Park. "The dog may his environmental neither endanger nor bother", BHV Chairman Rainer Schröder stressed. In the theory part, dog owners have to answer 40 questions about dog behavior and education.
The owners of more difficult, insecure dogs can pass the driver's license, underlining Schröder: "Condition is that the dog owner by farsighted action safely controls the behavior of his dog."
The dog license is recognized in some States as certificate of competence, in the other federal States it exists for testing.
Save the dog with the dog licence

The dog driving test
The day starts with a theory exam. The practical exam is a single test and takes place in various environments: in low-distraction environment, in the dog run area in urban environments. Exercises such as position, course and stay includes as well as handling exercises such as creating a mouth basket or the locking handle. Special emphasis is placed on the prudent and proactive behavior of vaccinations in public. Examiner Chairwoman Dr. Katrin Hagmann: "therefore owners of more difficult, insecure dogs can drop the licence, if the holder by farsighted action can safely control the behavior of his dog."

Examination requirements for dog licence
The dog driving test each dog school can login to their customers, who are 16 years of age at least and have a valid liability insurance for the dog. The dog to be tested must be at least 12 months old, have a sufficient vaccine and be identified by an implanted microchip (transponder).
To prepare for the examination, it is appropriate to refresh existing knowledge and skills through a targeted training of a qualified dog school or to complete. The theoretical questions refer exclusively to scientific evidence, legal principles and laws of learning theory.
Situations in non-urban and urban area are reviewed for the practical test. The dog should be in two areas of the dog owner controllable and easy to do.
Register the dog
Who keeps a dog, has to indicate the following prior to completion of the seventh month of the dog to the authority leading the central register (article 16):
- his name, for natural persons also first name, date of birth and place of birth,
- his address,
- the gender and date of birth of the dog,
- the race of the dog or, as far as detectable, the indication of the crossing and
- the identification number of the dog (§ 4 sentence 1).
The dog when taking the dog ownership is older than six months, the figures are within one month after the recording of dog ownership.
Dog insurance
The dog must be identified by Microchip as well as at a haftpflichtversicht his (Mindestversichungssummen apply in the amount of 500 000 euro for personal injury and EUR 250 000 for damage to property).
Wir hatten mit dem Training wenig Probleme. Anfangs haben wir immer mit Belohnungen bestärkt, danach teilweise und am Ende per Zufall.
Immer belohnen:
Für jedes korrekte Verhalten gibt es einen Click und die Belohnung. Die permanente Belohnung wird von Dir so lange durchgeführt, bis das Verhalten die erwünschte Qualität hat.
Teilweise belohnen:
Nur jedes 2. richtige Verhalten wird belohnt, einmal gibt es Click und Belohnung, das andere Mal gibt es nichts. Damit wird das Verhalten gefestigt, der Hund zeigt es zuverlässiger und meistens auch schneller. Nun wird das auslösende Signal (Befehl, Kommando) eingeführt. Es kann passieren, daß Dein Hund bei zu schnellem Übergang auf variable Belohnung plötzlich keine Lust mehr hat, oder plötzlich scheinbar alles vergessen hat. Dann gehst Du einfach wieder einen Schritt zurück, und bestärkst etwas öfter.
Per Zufall belohnen:
Im Alltag gibt es nur noch ab und zu eine Belohnung. Das verhindert, daß das neu erlernte Verhalten vergessen wird. Nun kannst Du auch mit einem Lob bestärken, das genügt dem erfahrenen Hund, gib aber auch jetzt noch gelegentlich mal eine Belohnung. Das erhält die Motivation Deines Hundes.
Du kannst jetzt davon ausgehen, daß Dein Hund ein Verhalten gut gelernt hat, gelegentlich kann es passieren, das es wieder “schlechter” wird, der Grund ist meistens mangelnde Anwendung im Alltag. Das ist normalerweise kein Problem, es genügen wenige Male der Bestärkung und Dein Hund zeigt es wieder wie gewohnt.
